Location
Jait (Mathura) is a village situated on Delhi Agra road (NH 2), 135 Kms from New Delhi. This village is known for its historical significance which finds mention in Sanskrit scriptures. This route is the most traveled route for the tourists and pilgrims going to Agra and Mathura
History of site
This site is significant as it was here that Krishna killed the demon Aghasur, who had assumed the form of a python. Aghasur intent on killing Krishna, lay in wait for Krishna’s cowherd boys in the forest where they would graze their cows.

His large open mouth appeared to be a cave and the boys entered it only to be swallowed by the demon. Suffocating in the belly of the great snake they cried out for Krishna. Krishna also immediately entered his belly and expanded himself in the python’s stomach, killing him instantly.
When the Brajwasis heard of this incident they gathered there and thanked Krishna. Celebrating his victory, they lifted Him on their shoulders and in praise they said :“Nand Lal Ki Jai, Gopal Ki Jai and Bal Krishna Lal Ki Jai.”
It is because of this leela that this Kund was named Jai Kund and the village came to be known as Jait. Millions of tourists and pilgrims come to Braj to see places of interest associated with the transcendental pastimes of Lord Krishna’s childhood. Jaint is close to Vrindavan hence it has a potential to become a most popular destination for tourists, specially the children who would enjoy to see this interesting past time of Krishna.
The Braj Foundation’s effort for de-silting Jai Kund
The Braj foundation identified this spot in 2005 and with the generous financial support of it’s Founder Chairman, Mr Kamal Morarka (CMD of Gannon Dunkerley Group Mumbai), spent over 17 lakh rupees to de-silt this Kund. Then the Revenue department of UP Govt. was approached to remove the encroachments from its catchment. Then we fixed the barbed wire fencing all around the periphery of the kund. The Foundation diverted the nallah of the village which was falling into this kund and constructed a channel and puliya to divert the over flow of the Kund.
