Krishna Sarovar, Baad (Mathura)

Glorious times ahead for Krishna Sarovar
A Braj Foundation Initiative in Mathura

Location
Sarovar is situated in Baad village between Mathura Oil Refinery and Agra , off the Delhi Agra Highway (NH2).

History
After killing the demon Dhenukasur young boys Krishna and Balram took dip in this Kund. It is also famous in Braj as the birth place of medieval age saint Hita Harivansh Ji Maharaj. Locals confirm the fact that till the British rule, the kund existed as a one acre huge water body. Later a rail line was laid cutting through the middle of the kund and the highway came up on one side. The original water body was thus cut down to a much smaller size. The historic walls of the kund were lost in the sands of time, and with them we have lost significant historical heritage. As far as the huge kund was concerned what remained was a flat ground.

Braj Foundation Restored Krishna Sarovar

The villagers of Baad and the saints residing in the adjoining temple urged the Braj Foundation to take up the task of restoring Krishna Sarovar.  Desilting work was done between 2007-08 with the financial support of Mr Kamal Morarka. The kund is now filled with deep water. The barbed wire  fencing of the whole complex of over 14 acres has been done by the foundation.

Beautification plan
Here an old ghat like structure has been unearthed. The Foundation is planning to create a pucca or concrete kund structure here while integrating the old ghat structure in its designs. At the same time a kuchcha kund has also been created to take care of the everyday requirements of the nearby villages and settlements.

The near future developmental plans include creation of a peripheral path for circumambulation, an amphitheatre, dioramas landscaping, and lily ponds, garden and ethnic food court. The Brajwasis of Baad village are extending their wholehearted support towards the project because they see potential for their economic growth with this project. We need about Rs.2.12 Crores for this project.
