The Chief Secretary of UP visits Brahm Kund on the eve of its inauguration

Braj Mahotsavs

It is said of Braj: “Saat var nau tyohar”( on seven days in a week, we have nine festivals) and “Every word is a song, every step is a dance and every day is a festival !” The lore of Braj is full of festivals celebrating Krishna. Solah kala sampoorn, ras raaj Krishna is the epitome of festivity. His life is full of music, dance and ecstasy. For the past five thousand years Braj culture has influenced all the various art forms of India - dance, music, sculpture, painting, literature, theatre, and even cuisine.

To showcase these aspects of Braj, The Braj Foundation has developed the Braj Mahotsava. Seven high-profile ‘Braj Mahotsavs’ have been organized in Barsana, Vrindavan, Lucknow, Delhi and Jaipur since 2005. Financial support for these have been extended by  Mr. Suresh Neotia (Ambuja Cement), Mr. Samir Gaur (J P Group) & UP Govt. Next Braj Mahotsav is being organized at Hyderabad in association with the Andhra Pradesh Govt. from 25th March 2011 to 27th at the Lalit Kala Toranam, Hyderabad.

A comprehensive plan is being drawn to revive the cultural festivals of Braj to integrate them into the national tourism circuit. This would not only boost rural tourism but also support the local economy and create jobs rather than eating into the natural resources and environment of Braj. We also host Mahatosavs at the heritage sites which have been restored by the Braj Foundation in different parts of Braj.
