Sri Krishna showed His various leelas to Brajwasis in the Braj region itself. At Kaman He showed the Ram leela, at village Shesh Sai He showed His Vaikunth leela. Likewise at Kosi He showed His Dwarika leela to His beloved Brajwasis.
Ratnakar Kund is believed to be the replica of the ocean at Dwarika (Gujarat). In Kosi there is another kund called Gomati Ganga, which is part of the same Dwarika Leela.
This kund is huge and full of water for most of the time Unfortunately people have encroached upon it’s catchments area. The sewer and several other nallahs fall into this magnificent kund causing pollution. The basin of the kund has a meter thick layer of polythene bags, which need to be removed to allow the aquifers to open up. In spite of its significant historical and mythological importance Kund had been lying in a neglected and deteriorated state.
Dried, Encroached Kund and Ruined Old Ghats
The Braj Foundation tried to de-silt this kund in Jan 2007. We drained out the water and sent our earth movers to de-silt. But due to the thick layer of poly bags at the basin the mchines could not move and started skiding.Meanwhile the water kept refilling. The entire operation had to be stopped on the advise of our engineers, who wanted special equipments and more than available resources for this job.
The kund is very significant because of it's water harvesting potential. Once completely de-silted and restored Ratnakar Kund would transform the entire environs of Kosi township.
The kund bed needs to be dug up to clean the deposit of plastic and silt. A sewer line needs to be installed to divert the dirty water falling into the kund to the nearby drain. The side walls and the ghats need to be repaired and wherever required reconstructed. Fencing needs to be erected at those locations from where solid waste is thrown into the kund.
We propose to develop this site with an open air amphitheatre, parikrma path around the Kund, centric dioramas of Lord Vishnu & Laxmi serving the Lord who would be laying on the Sheshnag (king of serpents), trees around the Parikrama path, car parking, facility centre, signage, information counter, equipment and guard room etc. We need about Rs. 1.98 Crores for this project.
Once developed this site, will attract huge crowd because of its location, which is close to NH-2. All the tourists, going to see the world famous Taj Mahal in Agra or Vrindavan, Mathura, Goverdhan, Barsana and returning to Delhi will find this spot attractive and welcoming for a brief stopover.
